Hello, I’m interested to get some information about catheters. What are they made from and where are foley catheters placed in body? Please if you can tell me few words about this. A friend of mine is in hospital and I’ve heard nurse talked about catheters. He’s actually not very seriously sick. Why does he have to have foley catheters?

Catheters are made of rubber or plastic and are placed in bladder to drain urine. So there is probably disorder like urine retention or incontinence that is reason for placing catheters in body. They can drain or collect urine and it is actually a tube placed in bladder. This is what I know about foley catheters but there are actually different types of catheters that are used for other reasons, but what is in common for all is that are tubes.
