My white blood count is elevated which Dr says is not normal other tests are pretty normal accept I found out that I am borderline diabetic , and my cholestral is 280 (High). The only thing she asked is if I a=have had a colonoscopy , which I discussed with my gastro Dr , he said he would like to wait for that when I turn 50 , which I do in June . It does have me very puzzled though , why is it elevated . Which I can say I have been under allot of emotional stress lately !! Please reply

I have been reading a lot on this subject because of a friends son who may have leukemia. There are several reasons a white blood cell count can be elevated. Anything that causes your immune system to react, such as infections, cuts, colds etc... For the person who mentioned yeast infections.....The high white cell count could easily be a symptom, not cause of the yeast infections. However, you need to continue with the doctors until they find the real answer. To those of you who have continued high white counts and your doctors feel it may be more serious, a bone marrow sample is taken to test for leukemia. My neice was misdiagnosed with leukemia and the result was damaging to her physically. You need to follow up with your doctors and be sure to get a second opinion. Hope for the best and stay on your doctor as if it is the worst.

To the guest with the yeast infections. This is not a bunch of hooey! I went thru this...you have to absolutely remove all sugar from your diet. That includes anything white such as breads, rice and potato's. Eat yogurt that has L.aciphadophillis (spelling?) in it. They also have the pills in all drug stores. Also there is a great book you can read it's called the yeast connection. Make sure you shower and not soak in a tub, do not use antibacterial soap, get something mild like johnson & johnson and wash you underwear in detergent & bleach only....no fabric softner.

I have high white blood cell count. I have to wait 2-3 weeks for another blood test, also I went to have thyroid and iron test which came back fine but showed white cells it’s a long time to wait. I know that they are responsible for protecting the body from infection and malignancy. Is there anyone with same problem? Is this sign for infection?

Hi i just been for the same tests last week and was told i had a high white blood count. My doctor asked if i had a cold or felt unwell recently, and i did have had a cold and this may be a reason why your count is high!
takecare

Low grade Lymphoma or Lymphoma can play a role, do you have any emalarge lymph nodes or is your spleen enlarge and if not, then you may have to go to a Oncologist and maybe have a bone marrow biopsy. Good luck

Have you had your Spleen checked, you talk about pain on your left side, that is a possibility. Also, having the results sent to a "Cytogenectic Laboratory" & do the "FISH" test as sometimes the bone marrow can have a Negative results but still have some cancer cells in your body. Also one moe thing i can think of, maybe you need to see a rheumatologist. good luck to you

Wow, I am so happy to see that these conversations are current and that i am not the only one in this boat. Two weeks ago i went to the hospital in the middle of the night with severe kidney pain. I have a personal history with Kidney stones and I have a rather large one now as well. I also found out that my white blood cell count at the time of admission to the hospital was 21000. This meant i would not have a lithotripsy done to blast the stone and that i needed to stay in the hospital for several days. The Dr told me that i have an infection, and that i need to take a lengthy course of antibiotics to fix the problem. I go back to him tomorrow, may 14th 2007. i am nervous to find out if my count has changed, he put a stent in me to help with the stone and it is driving me nuts.....i know about everything else, i just dont know what made my WBC count go so high. Oh, the doctor also told me that if i had not gone to the hospital when i did i could have died or at the very least lost my kidney...scarey! So, i am with you all, love to hear what you have to say about it and what you know or have heard and how you are doing?
