Hi, I have a urinary infection that the doctor has prescribed Cephalexin for. The thing is I am in a lot of pain and am thinking about taking some kind of pain killer. I am thinking about taking some Ibuprofin to help me with the pain. I havent talked to my doctor about it. Is it safe to combine Cephalexin and Ibuprofin?

Hi, I am not a doctor, but I dont think you should mix medication without your doctors approval. Even the doctors are not quite sure how these drugs work in our body, yet alone we. I have suffered from urinary infections myself on few occasions and I am aware of how painful it is to deal with the illness. It takes a while for the antibiotics to work. And the pain is really unbearable. But, as I said, you should try anything on your own. Maybe mixing Ibuprofen with Cephalexin will lessen the effects of antibiotic and then you would have created a bigger problem. That is why you should talk to your doctor about the combination of Cephalexin and Ibuprofen. If you are really in a lot of pain, I am sure your doctor will advise you about the best pain med for your problem.
