checking glaucoma regularly

Hi! I’m 17 years old. My dad has glaucoma and because of that I need to go to check my eyes every year. My parents explained to me that I can also get glaucoma. I’m checking glaucoma regularly but I don’t understand why it is so important. Can somebody tell me that?

Usually glaucoma has no symptoms in the early stages and because of that you need to go to check your eyes even if you don’t notice any signs of it. The optic nerve can be damaged before you notice any loss of vision. You should know that glaucoma is one of the leading causes of preventable blindness in our country.
