i am a 26 year old male...i was circumsized 3 days ago due to medical reasons and i've had a horrible time with night-time erections. they seem to occur every hour or so, are painful and wake me up instantly. is there a way to suppress the erection until i am fully healed? also, the opening of my urethra has become swollen and the opening is extremely narrow making it difficult to pass urine. is this a normal symptom? I had an STD check before the operation and the tests came back negative. I tried calling my doctor but he won't be able to see me for another week and a half so I would like to stop worrying.

Hi there! The swelling you are experiencing is normal and usually bandage is put around the whole shaft to contain and reduce the swelling.

As for the night erection, you may want to sleep on the side and not on your back. The reason it hurts is that an erection is pulling your stitches. Make sure you urinate before going to bed and do so a couple of times during the night. You could also draw your knees up into a fetal position.

If your urine sprays instead of coming out in the stream, it is due to the swelling but I am not so sure if narrowing of the urethral opening is common. There could be a problem especially if you are already experiencing troubles urinating. I would see another doc just to have that urethral opening checked to see if everything’s in order.
