clotting, cramps, prolonged period

I am a 19 year old female, i recently went to the gyno because i have been bleeding for 9 days and i have been having clots about the size of golf balls, plus i have been having extreme back pain, and lower stomache cramps. The doctor only insisted that i should take birth control, but i don't believe in it. Also, some people i know have stated that i might be having a miscarriage. But no one has actually told me what the signs are and what i can do to help my self. WHATS WRONG WITH ME????

When is your period due? If you have been late for your period then it may be an early miscarriage. I think the doctor would have taken this into account though. If the bleeding hasn't gotten lighter over the 9 days, or if it has lightened but hasn't stopped in the next couple of days, go to another doctor and get a different opinion
