I would appreciate some information about cocaine detox and recovery. My fiend was using cocaine for the past 2 years and now he wants to be clean. However, he wants to do it alone, without professional help. Please give me more information.

He is not the first one who will try to go cold-turkey but as we all know, this approach does not have good results. The addicts eventually give up, and even though this is possible with the addict after a rehab, it is much better that detox is done under supervision of professionals. Cocaine detox is the first step in recovery once an addict has admitted to a problem. It is a complicated process and needs to be monitored by licensed professionals because safety of the addict and any other people involved needs to be ensured. A cocaine detox doesnft have to be performed in a medical facility but the resources available for a withdrawing cocaine addict are much better there than those at some non-medical facility. Specialists are able to give the addict some type of understanding about the process and they can also talk about the options that are available once a person has detoxed. I hope that your friend will reconsider and decide to go to the rehab.

| What is there to detox in the sense of the word? Cocaine is not a physically addictive drug and any effects typically wear off in a very short period of time (few hours tops). Whilst it can be "detected" in urine for up to a few weeks it is does not play any part in an addicts ability to give up. Pshycological help, understanding, education, activity of other natures all help but any specific detox is a farce. |

To Guest, who says that Cocaine isn't physically addicting, let me fill you in on something:
WRONG, MORON.
It's addicting as hell. Please, don't try and give advice if you're just going to say, "Doesn't look like there's a problem to me, you should just stop doing drugs! Haha, life is a fairy tale."
Go f@#$^&* die. |
