if it seems to be chronic, or happens frequently, you should be worried. my uncle died a few months ago; two days after he had severe colon cramps. apparently, he had been ignoring the pain for a while, and only paid attention when the pain was so acute, he needed to be brought to the ER. unfortunately, it was too late. they opened him up and found that he had advanced cancer, and parts of his colon were already technically "dead". We regret not having known or observed enough to help him or encourage him to pursue medical help. What adds to the guilt is that a good number in my family are in the medical field.
