competitive rower with irregular period

Ever since the first time I had my period it was regular but my last 4 cycles have been very irregular. I am not sexually active. I am not stressed out but I am a very competitive rower. Could this be the reason? Are there any other reasons I could be all of a sudden irregular? Should I see a doctor? Also, is there anything that I could take to regulate my period?
