How old is everybody here that takes Concerta? I was recently put on 18mg of Concerta because I've been having a hard time concentrating and everything since a battle with viral meningitis 2 months ago. I'm not concerned about weight loss, but I was wondering how old everyone here is compared to their weight loss

I have taken welbutrin for the last several years and have recently stopped because I just didn't think it was helping. I also gained about 35 pounds in the last 3 years. I crave carbohydrates and crave eating late at night when I am alone.

I have a great deal of anxiety and I feel like I cannot cope with daily work situations. I procrastinate and avoid.

Do you have any knowledge about my situation? What other medications may be helpful. I have taken Zoloft before & it worked for only a short time.

I live in Orange County California.

Concerta takes away my appetite and at one point I was on "adipex", which is a stimulant prescription diet pill that has been around for 30 years or so and works very well. Concerta feels almost the same as far as appetite control except doesn't make me feel "high" like adipex (phentermine) does. The adipex gave me more energy. I have the Concerta for ADD and it helps me concentrate A LOT better. If you are looking for a weight loss drug, I'd ask for phentermine (adipex is a brand name) since it is for that purpose, and I think it gives you more energy to work out & get stuff done. Adipex (or generic phentermine) is also A LOT CHEAPER. I wouldn't try Concerta which is for ADD, as it only helps with focus & concentration...with a "side effect" of supressed appetite. Just try to get what you need, not something that is for another problem, that happens to have a side effect you like the idea of. Now, if you have ADD or ADHD and you're overweight, I guess the appetite supression can be a bonus, but I wouldn't go on it just for that. There are other things to help with that, that work even better & cost less.

OK I feel for the woman who wrote about her weight gain and anti-depressants after I read the un empathetic responses from some of the responders. First of all, some anti-depressants can and will make you gain weight without a change in excersize and /or eating habits. I have been on and off of them for years and when not on anti-depressants I weighed about 105 lbs... when on (lexapro) gained 15 in a year which is a lot for me. I excersize and have a small frame. So you want to lose weight? The anti-depressant that I took that made me lose weight was Wellbuterin. I have insomnia so this didnt work for me once I was on it a long time. I got anxiety and what seemed like a distracting OCD. Very bad. But I was skinny. Right now I am researching and it looks like effexor &
celexa
will be my next try. So in my opinion if the weight gain is making you depressed then what good is the anti-depressant. Now this is of course only if your depression is mild .... and check with your doctor...

Good Luck and may you lose weight , look great and be happy!

I'm 19 and have lost over 30 pounds and counting since starting concerta- [72mg]. I'm a trapeze artist and contortionist so its great to finally be thin enough, but I'm starting to lose muscle as well as fat. I have to take a day off it each week so I can catch up on eating. Does anyone know if it truly speeds up your metabolism? Also, is anyone else on that high of a dose?

Hi. I was on concerta last year. I took it for ADHD. concerta did help me with my ADHD. but the side effects were terrible. I had such a loss in appetite, that i would only want to eat was a small bowl of cheerios a day. That was all i ate for about four months. I became anerexic. i lost so much weight, that my hair began to fall out in clumps, i got bruises all over my body, and became very weak.
Also doctors actually regulate your weight, and if you lose too much they will pull you off the drug as they did for me. i did not lose much fat, i mostly lost muscle. the drug also spiked my anixety so high, that i would regularly have anxiety attacks, and would shake uncontrollably. The drug would also keep me awake all night. While the drug may have it benefits, it is extremely dangerous. be careful. i would not recommend it. it is hard to get off of, once you start.

Absolutely not! Concerta is not an anti-depressant or a diet pill. It is a medication to handle ADHD. This may cause a decrease in appetite, but it is not a pill for weight loss.
