Today is 12/11/07. I started taking Concerta on 11/14/07. As of today, I have lost 21 lbs. so far. Can you imagine that 285 lbs. to 264 lbs in over four weeks? Unlike people who give their testimonies without telling you how it went down, I'm gonna break it to you and this is the most realistic advice I can give you. When I first started taking the pill, I wasn't eating at all. When I realized that not eating was causing more health problems than eating itself, I upgraded to barely eating. When I say barely eating, I would only eat one meal a day. As a result, I lost 15 lbs. in over two weeks. In the past two weeks after that accomplishment, I then upgraded to eating more than one meal a day. The key to eating more than one meal a day is the fact that they have to be small meals. Anything bigger than a small meal will put you back where you started well at least I think it will because I haven't gone no further than up to three small meals a day. That doesn't mean I'm gonna go crazy and make an upgrade that ain't necessary. As far as diet and exercise is concerned, you do not have to make any changes to your diet as long as you keep it to up to three small meals a day and although exercise is an added plus, me myself has only exercised for one day during this whole weight loss process. I'm still losing weight but at a slower rate now since I'm eating more meals a day especially since I lost 6 more pounds since I lost 15 lbs. I aint telling nobody what to do but after everybody if anybody reads my story, people can make smarter choices while they are on Concerta. By the way, Concerta has also helped me with my ADD problem. If I left anything else out let me know.

Wow. You really left me speechless!! Concerta is a mild stimulant to the central nervous system (brain and nerves) and is used as antidepressant, to treat attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and narcolepsy. It has nothing to do with weight. Actually, the exact way that Concerta works is still unknown and the drug has a really huuuge list of side effects. Let me mention just a few - an allergic reaction (like difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face), chest pains or very high blood pressure, insomnia (difficulty sleeping), nervousness, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, blurred vision, abdominal pain, nausea, or vomitin. There is one side effect that you probably misinterpreted - slower weight gain. You see, that is only the possible side effect plus it will not cause you to LOSE WEIGTH but only TO GAIN IT SLOWER. So, I would certainly NOT recommend you using it for the purpose you’ve mentioned. Hope this helps!

I have to disagree. My son has been on Concerta for a year or so and has lost about 15 pounds since he started the 54mg/day. He has a definite decreased appetite. I have also been started on Concerta 36mg/day for my AADD (adult ADD). I have been on it less than a month and have lost 5 pounds.

I agree it shouldn't be used as a weightloss aid, but it does produce a certain amount of weightloss. BTW, I don't think it is usually used as an antidepressant either.

Hi There,
Concerta is not a weight loss medicine. Its an anti-depressant. And one of the side effects is weight loss. It is something totally different from what you want. I advice is don't take such medicine. Rather physical exercise or yoga is a better and safer option.

Concerta is time release Ritalin not an antidepressant. It is not really a "mild" stimulant. A Dr. won't precribe for weight loss but they might prescribe Wellbutren (bupropion) if you have depression that accompanies.

i recently started concerta about 4 days ago and read the side effects and when it says loss of appetite, it really means it, ive already lost 6 lbs, and im pretty shocked. but i certainly do not recommend it for just loosing weight, it can be very dangerous and im on it for my ADD and im very happy with the results. i stay so much more focused now and i can't believe how much of change it is for me. but yes it can loose weight, but it depends on the person and dose of the pills.

Hi all-
Concerta does supress your appetite. I've ben on it for 6 months for ADD, and have lost 20 pounds. Gaudino has probably never even taken the stuff. I am no longer obsessed with food, in fact, I have to actually remind myself to eat, because I have no appetite. I am finally in control, so I eat only the healthy things and in healthy amounts.

A quick reply to the above mentioned response. I am a 35-year old male, who has had no weight issues my entire life. I have been 180 lbs. forever. My job allows me to entertain and eat high calorie meals on a very regular basis. Historically breakfast is not a meal I considered necessary, and therefore did not eat it. Having taken Concerta for 6-months I can tell you that the NOT SLEEPING is a REAL ISSUE, not a side effect, but reality. However, I lost 15-20 lbs. in months. It got to the point that I had to switch medications. All of this weight loss occurred while picking up the additional calories required from adding breakfast to my day in ordert to take the Concerta. I DO HOWEVER BELIEVE YOU THAT THIS IS NOT A WEIGHT LOSS MEDICINE, AS THAT IS NOT WHAT IT WAS INTENDED FOR. Not being able to sleep FAR OUT-WEIGHS loosing some extra pounds.

Honey, Concerta is NOT a weight loss drug. I'm on it for the correct medical reason, and it really helps me to deal with some of the lethargy, sleepiness, etc., from my traumatic brain injury. To me, it was a miracle, but I'm still 25 lbs. overweight. That hasn't changed. Laughing But, there are worse things I could be, so it doesn't freak me out any.

The reason I love Concerta is that it helps me be more active during the day. Instead of sending my kids out to the yard to play, I play with them now. I can drive 1/2 hour to an appointment without almost falling asleep. That is why it was prescribed to me, and not for any other reason.

There is a reason why Concerta is prescription only, and weight loss isn't one of the reasons. And let me tell you what happens when I don't take it. I was having some problems that I thought might be a side effect of my Concerta, so, without consulting my doctor, I took a 2 day break from it. Day One was ok for me, emotionally. On Day Two, I really went nuts. I was yelling at my kids all day, very volatile. It got worse.

That night, I crawled into bed to sleep but couldn't sleep, justsob uncontrollably. I wanted to die. I'm a Christian, so suicide isn't an option for me, but I was praying for God to end my life that night. My crying woke my husband, who talked me through it and we decided that I'd start taking my meds again. It took me a week to get my equalibrium back and to get over the depression. PLEASE DO NOT MESS WITH THIS MEDICATION UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED IT. I'm a Christian, and that is the only reason I didn't go into the garage, start my engine and die of carbon monoxide poisoning that night. Losing a couple of pounds is absolutely not worth taking chances with your life.

I do have to take an antidepressent. Currently working w my doc to find something that helps me the most. I have severe mood swings as well as anxiety but I also am looking for a weight loss aid. (yes as well as eating right and exercising!) Is there something that does it all?
