| I just have been put on Concerta and yes it can be used for an anti-depressant as well and for anxiety. I am 28 yrs old Female and am being weaned of Cipralex and being put on this. I also take Clonazepam. Now the main reason this drug is used is for ADHD or ADD but doctor's also know the other benefits and can refer it for other reasons if they know the patients history. I am hoping that I will lose weight as well but hey if it doesn't happen my mental state is the most important. |

I have tried many things in order to lose some. I’ve tried several diet programs, was on few diet pills, but nothing worked. I’ve recently heard that concerta antidepressant can cause some weight loss. Is that true? Could I use it as a diet pill??? I would really like to hear your thoughts. Thanks a lot.

Honey - those pills are meant to be taken with a doctor's supervision for something unrelated to being overweight. I am 45 lbs overweight, have been on antidepressants and have recently found out I was misdiagnosed and actually HAVE ADHD and need to take concerta. Trust me - even if I lose weight - I would much rather do it through diet and exercise than having had to go through almost 20 hours worth of psychological testing, numerous counseling appointments and nearly losing a job. Be glad you don't need to take concerta.
On the other hand, it seems you could benefit from therapy. Anyone willing to play with their health and mental stability in order to "easily" lose weight, seems to be a little out of touch with reality. Go see a therapist before you injure yourself! |
Why would you use drug to make you loose weight and risk to get sick in the long run....just go to the gym and watch the fat intake....that is all you have to do... |
it does make you lose weight. and what do you mean "messing around with mental and physical health to lose weight". diet and exercise is changing your mental and physical health as it is. You are also messing with your mental and physical health when you smoke, drink, or eat unhealthy which i am sure you do all of, or atleast some of. most drugs aren't half as bad as most peoples diets are. problem is that food is legal without a script, so you think it's all safe. think again. prescription meds are illegal w/o a script, so all think they are all unsafe. think again.
my point is that just because it's a prescription med, and she is using it for a reason unintended by the manufacturer doesn't mean she is going to hurt herself. your lack of knowlege though might end up hurting you with the uneducated opinions.

| Concerta does help with weight loss. I have been on it for ADHD for about 6 months and it is a mild appetite suppressant. However I had taken adderall a couple years back and I lost so much weight. There has been alot of speculation that celebrities who have had significant weight loss have done it by taking adderall. It actually used to be used specifically for weight loss until they discoverd it works for adhd. So they just renamed it and marketed it for ADHD. Adderrall does have awful side effects such as paranoia, hallucinations, and sleeplessness. |

| I am on concerta because I have add. I got a whole packet that clearly states it is NOT to be shared with ANYONE who dosen't have the disorder. I'm never hungry but I always feel dizzy and hyper. |
