I had paptest recently and my results shown some abnormalities in cervical cells. I have to do cone biopsi. Please tell me something about this procedure. What diseases are usually diagnosed or expected to be dignosed by cone biopsi? Thanks.

Cone biopsy is type of cervical biopsy, when abnormal tissue that should be analysed is placed high in the cervical canal. Tissue that is removed is cone shaped, that’s the origin of the name of this procedure. Vaginal bleeding is normal to occur and last up to 1 week, and spotting may last for 3 weeks. That long sexual intercourse should be avoided. Cone biopsy is done when colposcopy can not be effective enough. Cone biopsy may show presence of cancer cells, but sometimes it is performed only for removal of abnormal cells.
