| I've been having the same problem of the acidic smell in my noise. I had a blood test approx two weeks ago and it came back clear. Kidney function is normal. Although this smell started about a week ago after the test. I live in an apartment which does have a dampness problem and mould which someone mentioned could be a likely cause. Has anyone had any break throughs about how to get rid of this smell???? |

| Follow up: After a few weeks of having a most horrible sense of taste, the problem went away. My blood/urine tests came back OK, the doctor said everything looks fine and my health is good, just that I need to lose some weight. I don't smoke and I generally eat healthy, I take vitamins, etc.. my doctor said the problem was most likely a temporary condition related to the strange virus I had following my food poisoning, she said it probably damaged my sense of smell but that it should heal up and return back to normal after a while. Thankfully, she was right. So to anybody considering anything drastic, definitely see your doctor, but also consider that it might go away on its own. Perhaps this is some sort of virus that is going around and hasn't caught mainstream attention yet. Also, I have my taste for meat back and I have been able to eat steaks, etc. But even still after that experience I've been staying away from beef, and sticking with fish and shrimp mostly, but I also like smoked turkey. |

I have the exact same thing!! I have been smelling exhaust fumes for quite a few years on and off. At first, back in the 1990's I thought it was from a Volvo that had a leaky exhaust. But that's been years ago and I still have it now. These past three months it has been intensely strong and I don't even drive a car???? |

|
|
I have episodes of a constant smell in my nose, especially when I inhale, that last a couple of weeks and then disappears for a year or two.
The smell is not unpleasant but it's difficult to pinpoint -- kind of a dull mint.
So far it doesn't seem to be affecting my health, but I'd like to hear a medical theory to these symptoms, if any. |

Agreed. I suffer from chronic sinusitis and I have had a constant smell in my nose which gets to you after a while~ like most people in this forum have experienced!
Best to go see your doctor. He may do an x-ray of your nasal passages to see if you have sinusitis. In the meantime, keep sucking in your menthol inhalers for a different smell! |

Hello .... I've been having this problem for over a year .... a very strong smell of exhaust. At first I thought there was some sort of leak in the house and mentioned it to my husband. He couldn't smell a thing. It is so strong at times that my eyes will burn. It happens at home and at work. That is what convinced me that my house wasn't fixing to blow up. I take quite a bit of meds. 3 for blood pressure and 3 for my heart. I noticed, expecially last night, that when the smell was the strongest, I had severe heartburn. Nothing would ease the chest pain. I have spondolydis arthritis and take pain medications to help ease the back pain. I really don't need a "new" problem to deal with. Can someone help me? |

| I really didn't think my search would come up with anything. I can't believe how many people have this problem. I have been smelling exhaust similar to a bus or truck. It gives me a headache and my eyes burn. Those of you who have been to the doctor are given antidepressants or told they were stressed out. The doctors don't know, so they blame the victim. There's got to be an answer. |

| I've had a constant exhaust smell for some time now. The catalytic converter in my car is not working and there is an exhaust smell coming from that, but as I sit here writing I can still smell it. I've asked my husband does he smell exhaust in the house and he tells me no. I thought I was crazy, now I realize others have the same problem. To SandyMc: I see you have alot of heartburn as I do. I've been diagnosed with GERD and Hiatal Hernia, this week I was told I have gallstones. This causes alot of pressure in chest and back. I wonder if there is a connection????? |
