constant spotting before & after period why?

hi there i was wondering if anyone could help me with this. About 4 weeks ago I started spotting then a week after, my period began. It lasted about a week. so about 2 weeks ago my period was over and since then i have been spotting practically everyday. This has never happened to me before I have no idea what it is. I am on birth control i take it everday. I had protected sex a few days after my period was over. If anyone knows what this could be please help me out.
