Hello ladies
Have been reading your posts with interest, i myself suffered long term vaginal bleeding for a year at the longest stretch, and then on and off long stretches.
I went to see my gp after about 9 months of this as i was also wishing to conceive and wanted to get this sorted out. She gave me a smear which came back ok, and could offer me no more answers, however she did refer me to a consultant infertility specialist, as i had been trying for several years.
Thie consultant gave me some investigations, and eventually after about a year of failed treatments and tests she did a hysteroscopy (where they look into your uterus and take a biopsy) and she discovered several uterine polyps. These she diagnosed as being responsible for the abnormal bleeding. I was given progesterone treatment to regulate the bleeding and hopefully shed the polyps, it did work, and when i shed them it was very painful, but temporarily sorted out the problem. Another hysteroscopy revealed they were gone.
A few months later my symptoms started again and i asked for the progesterone treatment again which she gave, i shed another polyp. After this, i was "normal" for a whle, and also taking clomid to achieve ovulation and try to concieve. This worked and am now 6 months pregnant. I am hoping that after the baby arrives my body may get itself into a normal rythym....but if it comes back at least i know what the likely cause is and how to treat it. Please dont use this account to self medicate with progesterone....just talk to your doctor or ask to see a specialist and say you suspect polyps. They will then be able to give you a hysteroscopy and you will know for sure.
Good luck...i know how worrying and frustrating it all is. If you do have the same problem as i had, remember things can get better, but they wont on their own.

I have been bleeding for 5 months now. I went to the doctors office, I've had ultrasounds and pelvic exams. The only thing they found was a lot of cysts on my ovaries. So initially they thought the bleeding was possibly a cyst breaking, but this has been heavy, dark, and constant. The GYN prescribed birth control pills (which I was not on prior to) and those did not help either. I am going to look for another specialist to see if they get any different results. Also, they have been running labs on me to ensure I am not loosing too much blood (for Anemia). Also, not sure if this means anything but I've always had abnormal periods (unpredictable).
I'm not sure how much help this is, but I hope it helps someone.

I am reading this in absolute disgust!!! What the hell kind of world are we living in when women can bleed for up to year STRAIGHT and no doctor will do anything?? I too have been bleeding for three months straight, with a day or two break. I got off the depo in Jan, and have been bleeding since, I also bled the entire time I was on the shot. I am married and have two children, ages 23 months and 9 months. I am worried I may become infertile after this stint. I have never had regular periods, but never had any trouble getting pregnant. I was on depo before, along with the patch, and the pill. I have never had this before. I start bleeding again after intercourse, so even when I get a break I'm not sure if we should have sex. Some of my symptoms are

*Bleeding
*Fatigue
*Swelling in my ankles & feet
*Major back ache
*Minor cramps
*Mood Swings

If anyone ever figures out what we all have, or you just wanna cry, because thats what I feel like doing!!!! please email me a_carrier03@hotmail.com and thats an underscore between a & carrier lol

I hate to say it, but I feel kinda relieved that I am not the only one going through this! Embarassed

A little history... I'm 29 years old, never been pregnant, started my first period when I was 15 and had probably two periods year until I turned 19 and got on Ortho Tri Cyclen. They were fine for the 6 years I was on the pill as soon as I quit taking it, my body went haywire again (2 periods a year), got a large ovarian cyst, had it removed, went back to Ortho Tri Cyclen and had no probs until I quit my job, lost my insurance and ran out of pills. Since I quit taking the pills, I went back to no period for 6 months and have been bleeding now for 4 months.

It started out very light and then it would seem to stop and I spotted the brownish stuff for a while and then I would bleed and go back to spotting and for the last month, I have been doing nothing but bleeding. I can't have sex or it gets 10 times worse and the only thing that seems to help is laying down, but when I get up, it starts to flow again.

I have fatigue, horrible lower back pain and sometimes pains in my legs, as well as cramps, bloating and ovarian pain.

For those of you who have taken various birth control pills, I bled like crazy on Yasmin and Ovcon. The only pill I had success with was Ortho Tri Cyclen.

From what I could gather in the internet, any of us could be suffering from hormone imbalances, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome , Uterine fibroids, infection of any of the reproductive organs, thyroid imbalance and of course, the dreaded C word.

When I make it to the GYN, maybe I can get some answers.

I have been a vegetarian for 14 years. Not sure if my diet has anything to do with it. I was told my a DR that my diet will more than likely eventually led to Syndrome X and my GYN told me that I wasn't "fat" enough to have it. Rolling Eyes

Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding - Topic Overview

Many women experience bleeding or spotting between periods. Vaginal bleeding is considered to be abnormal if it occurs:

* When you are not expecting your menstrual period.
* When your menstrual flow is lighter or heavier than what is normal for you.
* At a time in life when it is not expected, such as before age 10, when you are pregnant, or after menopause.

Causes of abnormal bleeding

Abnormal vaginal bleeding has many possible causes. By itself, it does not necessarily indicate a serious condition.

* Because bleeding can indicate a problem with pregnancy, possible pregnancy should always be considered in a woman of childbearing age.
o Spotting to minimal bleeding may be normal, but any bleeding during pregnancy needs to be evaluated by your health professional.
o Heavy vaginal bleeding or bleeding that occurs before 12 weeks may indicate a serious problem, including an ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage.
o Heavy vaginal bleeding or bleeding that occurs after 12 weeks also may indicate a serious problem, such as placenta previa.
* Ovulation can cause midcycle bleeding.
* Medications, such as birth control pills, sometimes cause abnormal vaginal bleeding. You may have minor bleeding between periods during the first few months if you have recently started using birth control pills. You also may have bleeding if you do not take your pills at a regular time each day. For more information, see the topic Birth Control.
* An intrauterine device (IUD) also may increase your chances of spotting or heavy periods. For more information on the IUD, see the topic Birth Control.
* Infection of the pelvic organs (vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, or ovaries) may cause vaginal bleeding, especially after intercourse or douching. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are often the cause of infections. For more information, see the topic Exposure to Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

Other, less common causes of abnormal vaginal bleeding that may be more serious include the following:

* Sexual abuse
* An object in the vagina
* Uterine fibroids are a common cause of heavy periods. For more information, see the topic Uterine Fibroids
* Structural problems, such as urethral prolapse or polyps
* Cancer of the cervix, uterus, ovaries, or vagina
* Breast-feeding
* Extreme emotional stress and excessive exercise. However, excessive exercise more frequently causes an absence of menstruation (amenorrhea).
* Other diseases, such as hyperthyroidism or diabetes

I'm going through the same thing it has been happening for about a year and a half. Sometimes it will stop for about two or three days sometimes I get to a week. I've been to GYN's and Planned Parent Hood but they all come back and say nothing. I've also got this splotched pattern on my thigh that has appeared. I haven't had sexual activities for about two years so I know it's not an STD. So many things have started happening to my body since the constant bleeding. I found a lump in my breast but its not cancer. I get these sharp pains every once and a while in my stomach and chest.

I'm 23 years old and my lower body controls everything. Every other week I have to go get more pads. I feel like I'm bleeding out. Does anyone know what this problem is? If so please contact me at ******Edited By moderator No Private Emails allowed.....

ladies the cure I have found is Turmeric or Kurkuma.
What I did is take half a teaspoon of Kurkuma twice a day.
This has calmed the heavy flowing and after two days make the flowing nothing to write home about. I do hope this will help you.
Blessings
