I have been bleeding constantly for 4 months. I have hemorrhaged and wound up in the emergancy room 4 times now. After the first ER trip, I went to the OB/GYN and I saw an older woman Dr. she decided that since I am 44, I am peri-menopausal and handed me a bag FULL of estrogen pills. Told me to take one every 4 hours until I stop bleeding and then come back so she can do a GOOD exam. I had already been bleeding for 3 weeks at the time and started on the mountain of estrogen. Well 4 days went by, and still no change. I called up and was instructed then to increase the dosage to 1 pill every 3 hours. Which I did, it didn't even slow the flow down at all. Then the Dr.'s office called ME up, said they had my husband on the other line, he was afraid I was going to bleed to death. I was going through a box of tampons and a whole bag of maxi pads a day, and was waking up 3 to 4 times a night in a puddle of blood. I confirmed all of this (I had told them about all this already) and they bumped me up to 2 pills every 3 hours. Well...after a week of this dosage I again hemorrhaged to the point where I was back in the ER. I was treated for dehydration, suctioned out and sent home with progesterone pills to stop the bleeding. They told me that since the estrogen wasn't working, must be progesterone I was missing! Sounded good to me, so I started taking those 2 times a day and it did slow it down to a normal period type flow. But it still didn't stop. Well I was on those for a month, actually relieved to be able to sleep through the night without having to get up and change all my clothes and sheets. But then again, it started gushing again on the 4th week and I was back in the ER. This time they did more tests. Said that I had a tiny fibroid tumor up at the top of my uteris, was dehydrated and my blood pressure was in the hypotension (it dropped quickly when I went from laying down to sitting or from sitting to standing, leaving me lightheaded and in danger of passing out) category from the massive blood loss. They changed the dosage, but gave me more progesterone and actually made me an appointment with my Dr.'s partner. Well he did an exam and bloodwork, looked everything over and said I had to come back in a few days to do a better sonogram. So I went in today, STILL bleeding like crazy and got my sonogram. During the sonogram, the woman doing it said she saw a mass in there, bigger than the tiny fibroid that was in my hospital report. She also informed me that I was bleeding very badly (thank GOD she came along, I would have never known) So I had to go back to the examining room and talk to the Dr. He tells me that it could be either a fibroid or a polyp but either way, he needed to get in there, do a D&C, and get an endometrial biobsy. That according to my bloodwork, I am NOT peri-menopausal, and do NOT require any hormonal supplements. So the hundreds of pills they had me take were for nothing. THEN he tells me that the hormones MAY have caused the 'mass' to grow more quickly. But once he gets his biopsy, he can see if I need a D&C with ablation or a full hysterectomy. I told him, I am an emotional wreck over this, and I can't live like this. I'm in pain, am bleeding and could he please fix it. He said, I would hear from his nurse within 2 weeks and she would give me a date to be at the hospital. So, now I have to wait, everything I have read about endometrial cancer, has me scared to death. I have to just sit and bleed and wait till the Dr. calls me saying I can go have something done.

I also have been bleeding for about 2 months now. Right thru my wedding and honeymoon.I will stop for about a day then start right back up. I went to my gyno and she ordered a pelvic ultrasound. Im soon to find out the results. i never miss a bc pill either. I am a 23 year old vegetarian. I was wondering if any of you are vegetarians and if this had anything to do with it. She mentioned i may need a DNC. Have any of you heard about this?

I just read the whole thread hoping that someone would come back on with the answer. I had a baby via c-section three months ago and have not stopped bleeding since he was born. I'm on my second BCP to try to stop the bleeding, but it isn't working. My doc said she would do an ultrasound if I keep bleeding, but they are treating it as if its no big deal. Not having sex with your husband in forever is actually a very big deal. I've also had constant lower back pain since my last trimester until now, but I figured that was irrelevant. Now I guess it probably isn't.

I promise if they figure out how to stop this for me, I will come back and let you all know what it was and how they treated it. I just hope that answer does come. So many of you have been going through this a lot longer than me so far. I don't think I can take it for much longer.

hy,
I am 36 year old austrian with the same problem. I have been bleeding since 2 month and sometimes the bleeding gets so bad I go trough a supersize tampon every 15 minutes.
I have an appointment to see a Gynecologist in November.....just as anyone here says, doctors do not appear to think this is a very big problem. Its HUGE for me.
Influences my day, sometimes I cant leave the house, constant worry and of course its a big deal if you are happily married!
So, again, you are not alone. i am trying progesterone at the moment (for 10 days). Will let the forum know if that works. thanks for all the postings.....its a huge relief to know that there are so many women out there with this problem. Wink

WOW!!! I never expected to find so many people with the same problems. I have also been bleeding. 6 weeks now. I had a baby girl 6 months ago. GYN says it has nothing to do with that. I had several cultures and tests Ran, all of which came back negative! SUPRISE, SUPRISE!!! I have another doctors apt. today. they are going to check for hypothyroid which can cause constant period like symptomes. Irritability, depression, weight gain, constant bleeding with few days of relief. It also causes symptoms like hair loss, fatigue, weakness, sleeping problems and itchiness Anyway I am 20, it seems weird that all of us are having this problem. I will post again when I find out what is up at the doctors office.

I second your WOW. I was shocked to see so many of you here but relieved to know that I wasn't alone. My symptoms are similar to most of yours....excessive bleeding for two months now. I have always been very regular. Have a beautiful little girl, but had to get pregnant through in vitro. I finished up another round of ivf before all of this started. It was unsuccessful and I had one normal (but a little light) period. Then I was a week late and then it's been nonstop ever since with the same huge clots that many of you described. Painful at times and so heavy that I get scared. I went to my OBGYN's office and ended up with a brand new doctor....seemed like she just graduated so i wasn't too confident in her prognosis....well, lack thereof. She gave me no explanation....I had an ultrasound and she told me that it looked like my uterus was ready for implantation (the point in your cycle where your body would accept embyos for pregnancy)....but this made no sense since I had already been bleeding for several weeks at this point. She gave me a prescription of progesterone to stop it. Another two weeks and no change. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical of the progesterone working. When going through IVF we used progesterone to hold the pregnancy....it is a medication that builds the lining of your uterus. So, how is that supposed to stop the bleeding? I saw something about it being used in conjunction with estrogen to regulate a cycle, but don't know if it was bc I didn't get the estrogen first that it didn't work?

Have any of you had a D&C? I'm nervous about that option. I'm even more nervous about the other medical procedures I've seen online and the possibility of cancer. I'm 34 and really want the chance to have a second child (we've got three frozen embryos that I want to be able to bring into the world). I'm planning on pushing to see my regular GYN this week but I still don't know exactly what questions to ask.

I have been bleeding for 10 months now and ave gone through many of the same issues as others of you. The doctor's dont think its anythig serious and are taking there time trying to find out what is wrong. I am 20yrs old with no love life because i am not comfertable being with someone. this is the worst thing because no one seems to know whats going on. im worried about so many things and that seems to make the bleeding worse. I was first told it was an hormonal imbalence, and then I was tol it was stress. I am 20 how much stress could i possibly be under!!! Anyway good luck everyone i hope someone reads are crys and gets help. Rolling Eyes

Add one more to the list. Although I haven't been bleeding for months straight I might as well be. I have been having really short menstrual cycles, (like 15-17 days) and then spotting around ovulation. Well the "spotting" at ovulation has turned into light bleeding that lasts days, in fact right now I am on day 9 of bleeding when it is the 23rd day since my last period. Basically now I am bleeding every week or two. I also have cramps and heavy bleeding and clots involved with it and a lot of dark brown bleeding which I have heard is "old" blood but not sure what it means. It has been going on for about 3 years. I have seen 3 Gynocologists. They tested my hormone and thyroid levels, of course normal. We tried birth control pills, the side effects drove me crazy and the bleeding did not change. Now they want to do a saline infused sonogram to see if there are fibroids they could not detect with a normal ultrasound. I hate it, it gets in the way of my sex life and just daily life. I never know when I will be bleeding. Also I was so frustrated that every doctor wants to put me on birth control pills or IUDs and I am against hormonal birth control, several types made me miserable. There seems to be no answers. I even tried progesterone creme in the second half of my cycle but it didn't help. I will try to come back and let you all know what the sonogram finds.

I lost a baby in early August, first period after that was late, second cylce I spotted a little, third cycle....I'VE BEEN BLEEDING FOR 6 STRAIGHT WEEKS! I am just being told that it's hormones and birth control pills should fix it. Well, I am finishing up my first month of pills and there have been NO changes.
What is going on? We would like to have another child after this loss, but how in the world are we supposed to get pregnant with this stuff going on without any breaks??
