my advise is that if you have the burning sensation, you realy need to have swabs taken at the dr's office to check for any infections.

Same thing has been happening to me for about a year. Monogamous relationship, first year sex was great then I started getting recurrent yeast/bacterial infections and also UTIs. The burning is on the outside, right at the entrance. Feels as though the skin isn't stretching - lots of stinging and burning. I go to the doctor everytime it happens and have no infections. I was on the pill but then stopped because of yeast infection. Had pain-free sex for about 6 months then it hurt again. I have NO idea what this is but it is a pretty common problem so the doctors need to start helping us out. Again - pain during sex, plenty of lube, in the mood, no infections.

I have suffered with burning and painful intercourse for 4 years. During this time I have been in a monogamous sexual relationship. I have seen multiple doctors who go through the same song and dance with me and don't give me any remedies that work. In the past, I have frequent, vigorous sex in the past with partners larger than my husband and this NEVER happened. Not once.

My symptoms: Burning and itching during intercourse. It starts sometimes as soon as penetration and other times within the first 15 to 20 minutes. Sometimes it is bearable and other times it feels like sandpaper ripping through my insides and acid being poured over the raw flesh. Feeling of burning mostly and itching some is on the inside and around the vaginal opening. Often the bottom of my vaginal opening becomes ripped.

Here are the questions each one of 4 OBGYNs have asked me and my answers (all negative):

Perhaps you are having sex too frequently or vigorously? Well no, our sex is normal and we have gone for weeks without having sex to test the ‘frequency’ theory. Same symptoms while engaged in very soft, light intercourse.

Perhaps you have an allergy to your soap, the detergent that you use for your underwear etc? I use the most gentle, no perfume detergent and vegetable, non-scented glycerin soap. Unlikely that either one of these would cause irritation inside me, right?

Perhaps you have a yeast infection or vaginitis? I have been tested multiple times for both of these directly after experiencing the burning/itching symptoms and tested negative for both infections.

Perhaps you are not lubricated enough? Even when I have lubrication dripping down my legs I still have the same symptoms.

Perhaps you need to try different positions? We have tried every one in the book

Perhaps your partner is too big and/or you are too small? We are average size and like I said, I have had sex with other partners multiple times that were much larger and I didn’t experience these issues.

Perhaps if you stopped taking the Pill you would stop experiencing these problems? I stopped taking the Pill for over 6 months and the symptoms persisted.

Perhaps you are allergic to your partner’s semen? We tried using a condom multiple times with lubrication and with natural lubrication and still experienced the same issues.

Perhaps you have some kind of STD? I have been tested multiple times even with blood tests to rule out any ‘carrier’ STDs and tested negative for everything.

So – with all this being said… any suggestions or insight? I would really appreciate any feedback anyone out there has!

Thanks!!

S

I too have the burning, but like Newbee I also get "ripped" at the opening. It's been mentioned that having intercourse too frequently could be a problem, but this isn't even a remote possibility for me. My boyfriend is in the military and we rarely see each other. When we do this is the sad result when we try to have intercourse. He says it doesn't bother him, but I know it does, and I know it personally drives me insane, frustrates me not to know what's going on or how to change it. Embarassed

I have that same problem and It's just on the outside skin. It's not from being dry either. We would use lube but it would make it burn even more! I stopped wearing panties for a week and that helped!! Usually this problem occurs from soaps/detergent, soaking in the tub too long, or not wearing the right underwear.

This is ridiculous for me.... I had a baby in December of '05... before that, my husband and I were goin' at it like rabbits Cool ... then towards the end of the pregnancy, we had to slow down, and then we had a C-Section, and then post partum, so all in all it was like 3 months with no intercouse!!! After we started back up again, it hurt really bad, and I thought it was just from the lack of sex, ya know? So we started to use some KY. Then I got pregnant again and had another baby in Feb '07. Ever since I had this baby this year, I can not have sex!!! It BURNS SO BAD. Sometimes I'll tolerate it for my husbands sake, but sometimes I just can't take it. I can't get wet on my own at all since I've had kids, and lube just makes the burning worse now... It doesn't burn when I pee, so I know it's not a UTI, but it is during sex, and just now and then when I'm not doing anything sexually at all. My poor husband thinks I'm not attracted to him anymore, and it's really effecting our marriage... Two kids under two wasn't enough, but this is just ridiculous!!! Did anyone else come across this same problem, after having kids? Not being able to get wet on your own, and burning? Please let me know!!! Question

It's so sad that there are so many of us struggling w/ very similar symptoms & there isn't any one of us who has had a successful diagnosis of the problem. From hearing all the stories from everyone else my husband has started calling it the "relationship killer" . I have burning when my husband & I are having sex, it usually occurs when we first start. Sometimes it goes away after we get into it but not always. It sometimes rips at the bottom of the entrance & I thought for a while that it was burning because of the tiny tears but when he poked around we found out it was right inside the entrance that was burning. He says there are sometimes tiny ridges or bumps & it hurts me when he touches it while it is inflamed. It doesn't do this every time we have sex, just most of the time. Most of the time I have to stop because of the pain but there have been times I have continued in pain for my husband's sake. I feel so bad for him, we hardly have sex & it's not just me who suffers... he does too. I don't want him thinking I have lost my sexual attraction to him! We had a very healthy sexual drive before we got married & then I went on the patch birth control. I don't know if this is the problem but ever since then I haven't enjoyed sex the same & it's been like 3 years! I haven't seen a doctor about this yet, but I am going to. I think I was just afraid to talk about it before. It helps knowing I'm not the only 1.

I cant believe I have found this!!!! 2 years ago, I went to get tested at the GU clinic, because of pain during sex and also a discharge. All my results came back fine and I have been with my partner for over 3 years now. I have since been told I have a crack, which I was given cream for. When the pain was no better, I went to my doctor, who examined and said I had Cervical erosion. I then had minor surgery at the hospital for this. However, the pain was still there so back to the hospital I went, only to be told the surgery had cleared up the erosion and that wasnt the problem. The doctor there suggested it could be a simple infection, so I was put on antibiotics. These also havent worked as the pain is still there, and I also picked up thrush along the way, least of my problems but still annoying!! Anyway, I went back to the hospital 2 weeks ago to tell them the antibiotics hadnt work and was told to leave it for 3 months, see if there is any change. These is no change and I know there wont be. I felt so so alone, but knowing other people out there are the same as me puts me at ease. I have been going through depression over the last few months, thinking that maybe my test results were wrong, that I could have a STI. I just wish there was a cure for this burning, to put us all out of our misery!!

I am not a doctor, but Ive been to a couple already about the same problem and they gave me antibiotics twice for this "yeast infection" they thought I had. It didnt help at all, if anything it made things worse. I started researching and I found something. EVER symptom I have was in this book. It wasnt just about the burning while having sex. It was everything. Vaginal discharge, itching, constipation, gas, abdominal discomfort, fatigue, headaches, diminished sex drive, irritable personality, memory deterioration, acne, lost self-esteem, asthma, and other troubles. If you have any or all of these symptoms, which I did. Reasearch Yeast Syndrome, Candida!
Do your reasearch and maybe this will help.
