The most common side effect of the cortisone injections is depigmentation of the skin at the site where the needle was introduced. This side effect usually subsides on its own in three to six months time. cortisone injections work locally, at the site of the injections and don’t cause as many negative effects as systemic steroids do (those taken by bodybuilders, without doctor’s supervision and that affect the whole body).
When taken under doctor’s supervision and order, they make sure that the benefits outweigh the potential risks and the doses are small, so they wouldn’t cause any side effects.
Side effects that have been reported are local bleeding from broken blood vessels in the skin or muscle, pain/discomfort at the injection site, and aggravation of inflammation because of reactions to the medication.
If the drug has been taken frequently for a long periods of time, these factors as well as dosage may influence long-term side effects. They are weight gain, puffiness of the face, elevation of blood pressure, thinning of the skin, easy bruising, thinning of the bones, cataract formation, etc
If you are experiencing any of these side effects or different ones, make sure you contact your doc write away |

| I had a cortisone injection in my right hip in April '07. The only side effect I had was a case of severe hiccups. They began on Sat-a day after the shot and ended on Mon. Wikipedia info said this could happen. |
