Well, as far as I know cortisone shots are not a permanent solution for bunions.
They are usually used as a starting point in bunion treatment to get rid of pain and inflammation but it will not solve bone deformity. And they are nor used in severe cases in which only surgery helps.
Almost all bunions will need a surgery because they don’t get better on their own, they only get worse with more discomfort and pain.
If you were wondering if cortisone injections could cause side effects, the answer is yes. However, a doc should make sure you don’t have any by adjusting the dosage but the most common are worsening of pain (that should go away soon), and skin discoloration at the injection site. There could be other side effects and if you notice any strange reactions, make sure you call your doc.
So, looking in a long-term run, I reckon that only bunionectomy could solve the problem but the procedure is not naïve at all and it takes a lot of time to heal.
You should talk to your doc and decide what the best solution for your individual case would be depending on the severity of the problem and symptoms you are having. |
