I had my gall Bladder removed a year ago and occasional experience cramps in my rightside. After the start of food digestion in particular high fat content food the body produces Bile this was stored in the gall bladder but after surgery it will drip directly into the stomach where the gallbladder once was this causes the pain. You had a gallbladder for a reason without it the body can function but not without some side effects. I suggest suffers eat a lower fat diet if the cramping is severe or prolonged go to the doctor it is possible to grow gall stones 3 years+ after the gallbladder is removed this should be checked.

I am a 38 year old woman who has just happend across this website by accident. I had my gallbladder removed in 1999.I have been seeing a doctor for nearly two years for chronic diarrhea, stomach pain and cramping. I have been out of work for 2 months this time around and have no hope of going back anytime soon. I have had 4 colonoscopies, 1 endoscopic, 2 MRI, 3 catscans, and numerous blood work, stool studies, etc. I just got home from another sty at the hospital. I went in t the ER with enormous amount of rectal bleeding, and while in triage giving name address etc, I colapsed. hey could not find a pulse and thought that I wasn't breathig...very scary when I came out of it. We have looked at colitis, Chrons, IBS, small bowel biopsies, celiac testing, you name it. What I haven't had any of the 3 doctors I see and 2 surgeons are test in my bile duct. I wasn't even aware that his could e the caause of my pain, why havent the doctors mentioned this. None of the ones I see now were responsile for the removal in 1999. I did not make stones just sludge. Which by the way without evidence of stones, they think you are crazy. I also get diarrhea about 10 times a day ( no weigt loss though) and usually starts alf way thru the meal. I have had times of bowel incontince which is horrible when you are out...talk about mortifying. What does the test consist of to get the bile duct checked? Can you go for years w/o having alot of problems before this becomes evident. Can the leak get worse thus causing more ain and diarrhea over the years? I try not to take Immodiumbecause then I just get constipated at he bottom and have diarrhea cramps and gurgling at the top and it takes me a couple of day to be able to go again. No meds have worked for me. I also have a very sharp pain in LOWER right abdomen where your ovaries would be, but I have had a hysterectomy and my ovaries have fallen towrds the middle of my pelvis dwn towards pubic bone ( no pain there). I am getting scheduled foe sugery this week for adhesion removal, this is the last chance and they are guessing at this. I have had 5 abdominal and 1 back surgery in 20 years, so they think this could be the culprit. Should I wait and talk to my doctor about the bile duct thing? I am thinking about emailimg him this forum. It sems to be a well documented problem yet none of my doctors have thought about checking this. I wish I had seen thi forum years ago. I am in so much ain and cant eat a thing without paying for it for hours at a time. I dont go out anymore anywhere for the chance I cant fin a bathroom fast enough. So many stores wont let you use the bathroom I have had to leave merchandise behind because I cant wait. Thank you for listenng. I atleast dont think that I am crazy anymore which alot of octorssem to imply when conventional testing comes up normal. Does anyone know of a good doctor in Rhode Island that has been able to help? Also has anyone else tried Colestid with good results?

I had my gallbladder removed November of 2006. Surgery took about 4 weeks to recover, although I was back to work 5 days after surgery. A few weeks ago, I'm getting right sided pain like the rest of you and I went to the ER to try to figure out whats going on. Did an ultrasound, CT and found nothing. Only thing they found was WBC count was high. I'm scheduled for ERCP in a few weeks and I'm not looking forward to it. Current theory is that there is a stone stuck in the bile ducts so they want to check it out.

If any of you have that famous run to the bathroom, my doctor perscribed me Questran and the problem went away immediately. Its a magical powder that binds with the excess bile and makes things normal again! I recommend it to all that suffer!

i had my gallbladder out feb 07 and like everyone i to have been experiencing the pain due to the removel. although i havent had diaherrea, only because i have what they call a t-tube inserted inside my main bile duct. there is a bag attached to the other end of the bag draining my bile. i have been trying to see the surgeon for weeks but they keep telling me to wait till i see a gastrointrologist in may. but im in pain now and i can't wait. i have also had hard brown things that have been draining into my bag. called the dr on that now i have to have a colageogram (not sure how to spell it) i figured it out on my own though, they are stones. i was doing my research online and found out that you can still get stones long after gallbladder is gone. i also found out that most people get diaherrea because the bile is going straight into the small bowel. the site also said that caffein, choclate, eggs, dairy, (espcially icecream) & greasy or deep fried foods are triggers for an attack. also to add fiber, and to add flaxseed to your morning cereal. eat fewer foods high in saturated/trans-fats, and to cut back on fast foods, and to get atleast 30 mins of exercise a day. well i hope some of that helps.

I had my gallblader removed about 21/2 months ago. after the surgical pain went away I have had a pain in the gallbladder spot almost constantly since then. I am on powerful pain killers for back problems - a morphine pump and 160mg of oxycontin everyday and it stillhurts! my meds should make me euphoric but it doesnt help. seeing the doc again on Fri. had ultrasound to see if there were stones in the common bile duct but none. liver enzymes were normal - any suggestions to take away the pain?

I had gallbladder surgery in December of 2006. I am sick at my stomach all the time and in alot of pain, the pain is so bad it wakes me in the middle of the night. My doctor ordered a CT scan and a MRI. He found nothing wrong. He keeps perscribing different medicine but, nothing works. I am really worried because it is effecting my job performance and my homelife, I don't feel like doing anything.

Hi

My partner has just had keyhole surgery 2 weeks ago in the UK (May 2007) After a week and a half of feeling better he is now having the exact same pain, on the right hand side, deep within the ribcage. After much searching Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction (SOD) has very close syptoms to gall-stones. Good luck!

I HAD MY GALLBLADDER REMOVED JUST UNDER 2 WEEKS AGO, I AM SUFFERING RIGHT HAND PAIN IN THE BACK OVER THE LIVER AREA. I'M STILL EXTREMELY TIRED THE DOCTORS TELL ME IT TAKES TIME BUT THIS PAIN IS WORSE WHEN I TAKE A DEEP BREATH. I'M EVEN MORE WORRIED NOW THAT I HAVE READ ABOUT ALL THESE PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PAIN ETC. WHY DID NONE OF THE DOCTORS MENTION IT BEFORE SURGERY?
