So tapering off slowly when you wish to come off this medication doesnt help? Say you are on 60mg, and then go down to 40 for a week, then 30mg for a week, then 20, then stop... I would imagine it would be like any other drug like this and you wouldn't feel any withdrawal symptom at all.

I have gone from 90 to 60 to 30 now. I have added Lamictal to the Cymbalta as I have been tapering. I havn't had any awful effects from the tapering. Perhaps it is the Lamictal that takes away from the withdrawl symptoms. (2 weeks at 60 inbetween the 90 and 30).
Dr.'s goal is to take me off of Cymbalta completely. I'm not really sure why though. I loved Cymbalta and I think the LAmictal is causing rapid weight gain.

Crying or Very sad
I too have taken Cymbalta for 3 months starting at 30mg and then 60 mg. I do think Cymbalta helped me get out of the bed and feel like dwelling among the living, but I gained 21 pounds. Two weeks ago I stopped takeing them - cold turkey. Dear God, what was I thinking. I have never gone thru anything like I am experiencing right now. I am tired, irritable, hurt all over, have these brain shock things, cry if I wrinkle my face or change the tone in my voice, scream at my children, headaches, back aches, you name it. Can anything make this better? Is there a natural herb out there that I can take that will not hurt me or my family?

You really shouldn't ever stop an SSRI/SSNRIs cold turkey. How come some of you chose to do that?

I quit cold turkey 60mg 2 1/2 weeks ago. I thought I would get better.
I am an angry person (not in mypersonality) that screams and swears at my 10 yr old daughter , yells at my pets, yells at people in cars, talks about not being able to go on, and feel every cell in my body twisting and turning. What do I do? Go on and finish the withdrawal or go on Cymbalta 30mg. We are so vain. I excercised and ate right but could not drop an ounce. My normal weight is 130 and I was stuck at 145. ( This was weight put on before Cymbalta,) but once i found Cymbalta caused weight gain or not being able to "lose weight" I got off of it. I told my doctor. She asked me if I was ok or if I wanted to go to 30mg. I said I would try to ride it out, but know I don't know I put a call into her.
NOW ABOUT LOSING WEIGHT. THIS REALLY WORKS NO LIE. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! i am not sure if this is the correct website but i
have paper in hand. too much to right. call me 707-469-9228 phone http://www.theroadback.org/weight_loss.htm . It says to take
to take 2 to 3 capsules of CLA capsules a day read the article 250mg to 500 mg is NOT enough and Omega 3 MUST READ THE BACK OF THE BOTTLE for EPA and DHA content. It is right on there. You can get these products at drugstores, nutrition stores. Read the article. You start dropping inches, not pds on the scale, on the second week of taking, and it sounds like you can still be on the drug? not sure. please read the article. But I have to say, My body conture changed already.

i have been on this monster for over a year. its not listed to make you gaine weight. however i have put on over 40 lbs. i am always sleepy during the day, and numerous other little goodies. now, i am trying to go off of this and i can tell you its a lot worst then anything that the doctor put me on it in the first place. i dont have any suggestions on how to get off this drug, or if i can make it. i would not recomend anyone alowing themselves to be given this without trying everthing else first. at 52 i feel like my health has gone downhill since taking this monster.

I tried coming off Cymbalta last week. I felt as though I was going to die. I was so sick with nausea, and dizziness. I do not want to be on an antidepressant or anything else for the rest of my life, but I am not sure how to get off this stuff. I take the 60 mg capsule. Anyone else had this much of a problem with Cymbalta?

I have actually been on Cymbalta for over 2 years...I titrated up to 60 mg and stayed there for about 18 months. Then I went down to 40 mg b/c of sexual side effects, but added Wellbutrin. I decided I didn't want to be on the Cymbalta at all anymore and went down to 20 mg. I felt awful for 2 days, but then fine--more energy than I've had in a LONG time. My doc told me I could quit altogether last week. So, I did. But now I feel so horrible and it doesn't seem to be getting better--dizziness, nausea, headaches, diarrhea, feel like crying every second...What is this??? Should I go back to the Cymbalta and taper off more gradually? Since they don't make anything lower than 20 mg, I would have to break the capsule pour it into juice or something. I read about doing this on a website and may try it. But now that it has been out of my system for 5 days, will this just make things worse?

HELP! I can barely go to work!

I've been tapering off of Cymbalta for quite awhile now. A good book to read about antidepressant withdrawl is "The Antidepressant Solution" by Dr. Joseph Glenmullen. He's a physchiatrist with Harvard and talks about the withdrawl effects of most antidepressants. I personally would go back on until the withdrawl stops then make your own capsules (buy empty ones at a health food store) of a lower dose, maybe 15 or 10mg. I've worked my way down to 5mg and tried to go off completely a few days ago. That didn't work so I'm back to 5mg and once the withdrawl effects stop, I'll try 2.5 mg. Everyone is different and can taper at different rates. This is one of the hardest things I've tried to do. Good Luck.

I've been on this stuff for two years now. Have been tapering from 30 mg down to 20 etc...
Since you can't get the stuff in a tablet, and the capsules have those little balls not powder, they won't mix in juice, so I just measured a whole pills worth, and eyeball what looks like half. It's the only thing I could think of. I'm doing 20 mg every other day, and feel crappy.
I have been having headaches and intestinal upsets every day. I can't eat without my stomach going on a rampage against me!
Is this normal?
Any thoughts?

Hi. I have been reading lots of threads on this topic. I have been on Cymbalta for 2 years. I have heard that it is great for short term, but everyone, including myself, realizes that it stops working and you feel the same after awhile (several months). This drug is horrible. Here is another good msg board on the topic that helped me: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/wdrawl/20061224/msgs/749307.html
I have heard that Benadryl helps also with the withdrawal, which includes a lot of nausea, but haven't heard anyone that has tried it. Anyway, I decided to go cold turkey 6 weeks ago since the meds weren't doing any good anymore, and still have the withdrawal. Just when you think you are done, it comes back. The "electric" impulses, the tingling of your hands, the nausea, the mood swings. I may have been depressed before, but at least I was not experiencing this. No one seems to know, either, how long this will last!! It is awful what this drug really does.
