Cystic fibrosis related diabetes? Is that possible? I know that my son, one year old, has already enough burdens on his small shoulders, does he really have to cope with one more nightmare? He was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was one month old and since then my life has been turned upside down. Doctors explained me the mechanism of this disease, but they did not mention diabetes.

The biggest problem with cystic fibrosis is that it creates intensive mucus secretion which can damage many body systems and inner organs. One of them is pancreas. One of the most important hormones of our bodies, insulin is created there. By damaging pancreas, cystic fibrosis directly affects the level of insulin, dropping its level under the minimum we need to function properly, thus causing diabetes.
