A friend of mine has found lumps in both of her breasts when did self-exam. She is 35 years old and has 2 children. She will have more tests done, like biopsy and mammography. What can woman at that age expect when find cysts? Is it the first stadium of breast cancer?

Fibrocystic cysts are very common condition, and not disease that occur in great number of women. As I read in an article, about 60% women ages 30 to 50 have found some cysts in their breasts. There are fortunately only 5% of fibrocystic conditions with risk of cancer. The best time for self exam is about 10 days after the period started, because then breast tissue is at the most normal state. Hormonal fluctuations that happen during each cycle cause changes on breast, like swelling, tenderness, lumpy and pain sensations.
