Hi! I have huge problem. I have disoaciative disorder, exactly depersonalization. Is depersonalization symptom of schizophrenia? I do not have other symptoms of schizophrenia. I had anxiety. Does depersonalization lead to schizophrenia? I worry so much.

Hi! Depersonalization can be one of the symptoms of schizophrenia. But probably you don’t have schizophrenia. You have some other mental disorder. Explain your doctor that you worry about schizophrenia. He will you explain what is schizophrenia and what is your problem. I once had panic attack. I was so worried about my mental health. So, I completely understand how you feel.

no depersonalization does not mean you have schizophrenia. If you had schizophrenia, you would know or someone else would. You would have profound distortions of reality(hallunications, delusions,) if you had schizophrenia. I would recommend trying an SSRI. They seem to be effective at relieving symptoms of depersonalization. Depersonalization is always related to an anxiety disorder. It doesn't mean you're crazy! You just need treatment. My guess would be to go see a therapist and start on SSRI. Zoloft seems to be the best tolerated with fewer side effects and better results. This info is not to replace that of a doctor's, it is just from personal experience and opinion. Good Luck! |
