Hi. I am 18 years old. My parents got divorced. I feel very depressed now. I have lost my interest in life, I have lost my appetite. I just sit in my room feeling depressed. I was thinking about anti-depressants. Is there anybody with experience who could tell me more about these meds? Are they really effective?

Hi. Yeah, anti-depressants are all effective. They elevate the mood in some 70% of depressed people. However, some anti-depressants work better for different combs of symptoms than other. If you try, for example, tricyclic, and it doesn`t work for you, you should try, for example, Elavil. All anti-depressants are prescribed. Some psychiatrists combine anti-depressants with other meds to make them more effective. So, I just take my happy pill and life goes on. I suffer from dysthymia and I live on anti-depressants. You must know these meds are not magical. They can`t solve your problems. They will only help you not to think of it.
