I have read in one article that Dexamphetamine substitution is a widely practiced. Although, it is yet under-research but it is used for controversial treatment for amphetamine abusers. I was surprised because of the facts I already knew about Dexamphetamine. That is why I would like to hear if that is true what I have read. Can you tell me more about dexamphetamine usage?

A study aimed to evaluate the usefulness of substitute prescribing dexamphetamine for amphetamine. It has been researched to both oral and intravenous users of amphetamines. The aim was to find out which factors predict doing well in treatment of Dexamphetamine. In the absence of more rigorous controlled trials, it was hoped that this study would help make some inroads and explanation. The standardized records of 220 users receiving dexamphetamine prescriptions were examined retrospectively through this study. Amphetamine users had all attended and received treatment by Cornwall Community Drug Team, and result was that oral and intravenous users had remarkably similar outcomes. Moreover, intravenous users of dexamphetamine were making more overall gains in treatment. Over half the injectors stopped injecting, and more than a third within 2 months of treatment. Variables predicting a good outcome differed between oral and intravenous users. However, female was associated with a slower change in drug-use behaviors, but a longer period in treatment. Conclusion is that dexamphetamine prescribing appears to be reasonably safe, and is associated with improvements.
