Hi. Im 21 years old, about 6'2 - 6'3 and i weight around 145-150. I read on the forums from an earlier post that a lot of kids go through this as they are growing up and it stops around 17-18 years old. well, i just turned 21 and from the looks of it, it doesnt seem to be getting any better from when i first noticed it. my old doctor that i used to go to said it would go away as i grew and was normal and all i had to do was eat healthy so i can gain some weight... i can eat whatever i want and probably not even gain a pound so i knew that wasnt gonna help. i also went to this same doctor for extreme chest pains (around 14-15 years of age). i was feeling these realllly sharp pains in my chest around where the heart was, so she puts me through these tests and tells me im fine. i rarely ever feel those sharp pains but they do come around still. i always thought it had something to do with my 'disorder'.. i also notice when i look down at my chest that my chest looks to be kind of angled. you see bone popping out way more on my left side than my right. i tried working out my chest to hopefully minimize the amount of bone showing and actually got succesfull in it, well actually it was because my chest was swelled from an extreme workout, but it ended up showing again. i have yet to go to a doctor about this since i was about 15-16 years old. i honestly dont know what to do or how to even handle this. i live in florida and of course we have the beaches down here and my friends are always bugging me to go but its hard because having that really brings down my confidence about myself. heck even when wearing normal clothes i always see myself as looking kinda funny. ive actually been through a stage of depression about this for a while and have been on a bad diet lately as well. no one in my family knows what the deal is because no one in my family ever had this. so i was just wondering if maybe i can get some answers. thanks a lot for taking the time to read this Very Happy

Sounds like you have pectus carinatum. Just get a brace for it. Contact me. My company produces a brace for this you wear.

Pectus Services is the name of the company we have braced about 300 kids with the protruding sternum chest bump since 1996!
