Actually, it is true and not true. When you are under the influence of marijuana, the THC cells bond with the fatty tissues in your brain, this includes the fat tissue around the pituitary gland. Therefore it prevents the gland from properly secreting the growth hormones. This means that for the short period that you are actually "high" you are incapable of growing. So for it to have any major affect on your bodies growth, you would have to smoke, an/or eat large amounts of cannabis and be under its influence for a long amount of time to have any major effects on you. Which, anyone that is still at the growing stage in their life would be able to afford, unless they were pulling in a spare $150 a day to be smoking.

As for cigarettes, I dont know, but the other risks such as lung cancer are far more dangerous. So dont smoke them. But weed, honestly wont hurt you as bad as tobacco or alcohol. For all you non-believers, get your facts straight, if you are on your couch for 2 hours stoned, then your not hurting yourself or anyone else. There are no bad effects unless you consider forgetting what happened right before and after you smoked that bad. And NO, you cant stunt your growth or get lung cancer, or kill brain cells form smoking weed. These are urban legends and all tests have proven inconclusive (which means not true, for you slow ones.).

btw, I'm 13 and haven't had stunted growth from smoking twice a month for 2 years...

ok. some of the people on here are pretty rude. that person up there, thats like saying you're a loser and whatever. you're a b*tch. forreal. its not your right to judge. if you've got negative things to say go somewhere else.

ok. my stepmother went back to college and i asked her if it could.
she said if you've reached, your BIGGEST growth sprout, you're fine. it wont stop you from growing. no it wont. and its not just your height, its your other body parts. [butt, breasts, feet, hands] but even after your growth sprout and you're smoking, be careful about your lungs. its very unhealthy. like that person said, it does things to your body that isn't healthy.

i am a smoker, i've been smoking since i was around 13. its not good. at all. but i just wanted you to kno the FACTS. not critism. ok ?

hope it helped !

It's all complete lies. Smoking tobacco and marijuana does not stunt your growth. Your growth and how tall you become is determined by genetics, i.e. if both your parents are over 6 ft tall, you will most likely grow up to be over 6 ft tall. "Smoking stunts your growth" is just another bs scare tactic fabricated by the anti-smoking campaign. They condescend to kids and treat them like idiots instead of telling them the real truth.

from my experience i believe it can...im 5'10 and 20 yrs old, my dads side is extremely tall.. my mothers side its half n half - grandfather quite short (and always was), grandmother tall.
now ive been smoking from the age of 13 (cannabis and cigerettes..maybe i should mention copious amounts of ecstacy as well - which i hear can also reduce muscle growth - possibly a myth).
other than that ive led a reasonably healthy life. eat healthily enough, play sports regularly. my younger brothers are both 6'3+ (twins). the thing is though, ive been 5'10 for 5 years..i have honestly not grown since i was 15. i cant put this down to anything else other than the drugs. let it be a warning to you. and even if im wrong. its not half bad advice anyway. if you need a frivolous thing like height to keep you away from smoking, so be it.
my suggestion if your young and worried about your height - your lucky as you have time on your side. keep yout diet healthy - fulfill your neccesary vitamin intake, exercise regularly, maintain good posture. and ull fulfill close to your potential. which is all your creator intended for u. another tip if your worried about working out stunting your growth...some research i looked at proves doing chin ups...or any exercise which stretches your spinal cord can increase your height. so you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone Wink anyway my sources are all pretty unreliable no doubt. and i am but a drop out stoner with no medical training whatsoever (if u cant tell ) but as ive said suggesting you quit smoking can only be good advice. its your prerogative whether or not you take it.

In my experience carrying a pair of really large over-packed SUITCASES daily will definitely stunt your growth!

But seriously, all this growth-stunting business is really most dangerous while you are still in the womb. That's right, a pregnant mother can rob her child of a healthy normal life before they are even born, just by smoking half to one pack a day plus a glass or two of beer or wine.

Well other than it's not good for you blah blah blah I don't think smoking has much to do with it. Diet is what will help you the most if anything will. It's well known that malnourished people are much shorter than those who grew up with good nutrition, even between generations in the same families so it's not just a genetic thing. Try to eat lots of protein and fat from animal products, maybe some resistance training to add muscle and maximize testosterone, and maybe cut back on carbs so you don't get fat while doing this because fat cells produced when you are young will come back to haunt later in life (trust me on this Rolling Eyes ). Good luck, I've seem people shoot up an inch or two in their late teens before, maybe you will too.

edit: I'm assuming you are male; estrogen pretty much stops growth in females after age 16 or so, but for a few more years guys sometimes keep growing.

Well... I don't know whether this all is truth, but I've been smoking since I was 12. I am 14 now, and I am 5'1. Since I started smoking, I maybe have grown 0.5 inch. If at all.

I've been smoking about 10 cigarettes a day [I usually split pack with my best friend. So 10 to me, 10 to her. Very Happy ] I tried to stop 4 times this year, and no matter what I do, I somehow always get back to it. The longest I could take was 1 week.

Most of my friends smoke, so it's kind of impossible to stop. Whenever I go out, there's one or more of my friends, handing me cigarette.

But whatever you do, never, and I repeat, NEVER start smoking.

And sorry about my English, I am not native speaker.
