drinking occasionally and taking pills

I would like to ask you a question concerning my wife. How dangerous is drinking occasionally and taking pills for birth control? I mean, will the alcohol reduce the effect of pills if taken at approximately the same time? How serious it taking any pills and drinking at the same time? I am just a bit concerned for her, but she does not think that it is a big deal, so I am seeking advice in this way. Hope you can help me.

Well, to be honest I do not know much about that combination. I guess that they should not be related, since those medications are hormonal in nature. I do know that antidepressants and sedatives are worst thing to mix with alcohol. I heard that you might actually die if you combine those. My friends mother almost died like that. Fortunately, they took her to the hospital. Anyway, I guess that there should be something written on product itself concerning interaction with various substances.
