I have been taking Effexor for 5 years and only after reading several different post from not only this site but many other, have I decided that I should of stopped a long time ago. I have several different health issues that have been talked about on this site alone. I was 31 when I started taking Effexor and had no other health problems. Now on the other hand I feel like a 70 year old women and have the health issues to go along. I just wanted to be able to play with my children and have participate in life. Now I am trying to go cold turkey off the effexor. I stopped taking it 4 days ago I was on the dose of 375. I did not know that I would have high blood pressure, hypothyroidism, high cholesterol, insulin resistance, metabolic disorder, gain 37 plus pounds. Now the side effects of not taking it may even push me back in the corner and not come out again. If you start you may not stop. I enjoyed the highs with Effexor, just not what the morning, month and years offered later. I hope that I will stay strong.
Good Luck to all that decide to go this way. |

I’m interested in side effects of effexor. In fact, what I’m exactly interested in is how effexor affects weight? Does it cause weight gain? If do, I think that it makes just one new reason for depression. Please post if you know something about this. Thanks.

yes it will cause you to gain approx. 30lbs. |

| I take effexor XR. So far I have lost quite a bit of weight, and the only other side effect is restless leg syndrome (on occasion). This drug has worked for me, but it won't work for everyone. |

I've been reading all these stories about everyone who has gain weight while taking Effexor for a short period of time to a long period.
I have been on Effexor now for 2 years, and I have had absolutely no weight gain!
I call this god in a bottle!
I hope other people who are prescribed Effexor have the same luck as I have.

| I can't believe there are so many others who have gained weighted while on Effexor. My doctor told me it was the best drug on the market and could perhaps help me to loose weight - yet I gained 40lbs over the year I was on it. Its my 4th day off and I'm dizzy and nauseous and hope these effects are gone soon so I can concentrate on loosing all this weight. Thanks. |

| I hate to be one of the nay-sayers, but I've lost 35 pounds while on effexor. I feel sane enough to not be eating all the time. I actually weigh less now (153lbs) than I did in my mid-20s (I'm 34). |

| The Effexor made me feel great and relieved my anxiety. After taking it for over a year I would have spells of not being able to stay awake. I would have to lay my head down on my desk at work for a while. I almost went to sleep while driving once, but fought it until I got home. I guess I should have pulled over for a while. I gained 25 lbs. while on Effexor. I had to go off it because of the drowsiness and the weight gain, which was depressing in itself. When I tried to go off the medication, I had brain shocks (zapping and zizzing in my head like when a bug zapper gets a bug) and felt soooo weird. I went off it as the doctor ordered by skipping a day and then worked up to skipping 2 days. I was ok skipping one day, but after 2 days the zapping started. I was afraid it was going to be like that forever, but after about 6 weeks it stopped. Unfortunately, I still have the weight. |

| I have taken effexor for 18 months. Over the last 18 months I have put on 40 pounds. I have dieted strictly and lost nothing, not even a 1/2 pound. I have my thryoid checked etc. I to have been tired. after being told my doctors to eat between what i am not and NOTHING, I gave up the effexor. We will see. For those that say "eat less" you don't know what you are talking about. You haven't been in this. Look how many people have the same results. It isn't "eating too much". It is frustrating and depressing. |

| I have been on Effexor for about a month this is my 4th drug I have tried and it works for my depression and anxiety better than anything I have took. I havent noticed the weight gain, due to already gaining the weight from zoloft. I gained 50lbs on that and was taken off by my doctor, then put on welbutrin well that didnt work so good a nice trip to the Er dept for a reaction to it. Then I was placed on prozac yup more weight gain and all of this in 1 years time. I am well over the weight I was after I had my kids. I am to the point that I want to take ADHD drugs just to loose the weight. They seem to work for them........ |
