| I find it helpful what the pharm friend said. maybe that would be a good idea, plus eating less sugar, which seemed to be when I started gaining weight on the effexor! It's a combo of things to do! |

|

Hello,
I too have been so frustrated with my weight gain and how I look and how I have had to buy bigger pants and shirts, and I think it's the medicine, Effexor I have been on for almost two years now. I am on a high dosage, 300 mg. Yes that is high. It I think makes me slow and larthegic and makes me in a zone. I am back at work now and since I have been back I have gaine d alot of weight. Almost 50 pounds. I hate it, I hate myself, I used to be so thin and I hate going to the gym because I dont see results right away. I eat pretty well, Im not shoving donuts and cookies and cupcakes down my throat. So I am active all day, on my feet a lot.
I hate it, and I think it has slowed my metabolism down A LOT. I am 27 and dont feel attractive or sexy. My boyfriends says IM fine, but I hate it. I hate the way I look and cannot fiogure it out why I am so fat and heavt. My mother is constantly on my case about my weight and IM like your the one who told me to go on the meds and now she is cioncerned about my weight.
I used to take 375 mgs of the medicine, but secretly am now only take 300. I have been doing this for about two weeks now. I havent felt any withdrawels, escept I think my moods are worse and my anger too. I really feel emotionless. I have this terrible attitude and I dont care about anything, I dont care about myself or anyone. It's like IM isolated from the real world. And have no idea what or who I am on. Wha tplanet am I on??? I am so afraid to go off of it, but want to so bad because of my fatness. Its terrible the way I feel and it effects everything my outlook on life and my relationships and I cannot enjoy anything. I fake so much during the day that it's disgusting. I feel worthless a lot too.
Does anyone else feel this way on these meds???
Help! I hope to continue weening myself off of the meds in the springtime when the weather is warmer and it stays lighter out.
OK have any advice or encouragement?

I have been on Effexor XR 75 mg for nearly a year. I have not lost any weight despite having an extremely active lifestyle and healthy diet. I am now tapering off the meds. My doctor said that the low dose is likely what caused my metabolism to slow. It is usually at the higher doses that patients find the weight loss benefit, if at all. |

Like everyone else I was told that Effexor wouldn't effect my weight - which was my FIRST question to the Dr. as i've dealt with eating disorders in the past and knew weight gain would make the situation I was in even worse. I was told NO WAY...this doesn't effect your weight at all. Well, in the 2.5 years i've been on the effexor i've gained over 50lbs...weight I worked VERY HARD to lose after the birth of my 2nd child. I've always been VERY careful about what I eat and have worked out religiously....yet after changing NOTHING in my routine except for taking effexor I've put on this weight. I weigh MORE then i did during the pregnancys and births of both of my children. I look pregnant and have people even ask if i am.
Yes the effexor did help with the post partum (and on and off depression I'd been dealing with since my teens)...but for me it's not worth it. I'm go in next week and asked to be weened off it and try something natural. This weight is interferring with my self esteem and thus relationship with my husband and i've turned into a hermit because I can't stand people seeing me like this.
When I mentioned to my DR. that i'm SURE it's the drug that has cause all this weight he said now way...i have to work out harder and that sometimes mothers eat things from their kids plates without realizing all the extra calories thier consuming! Yeah right....he's talking to an ex anorexic bulimic - I don't do that!
Nice to see i'm not alone! |

I've been on efexxor, this time around for a month and put on 10 pounds. Is this possible?
I am still eating healthy counting calories and carbs, fats, proteins, etc.
And I work out.
I am going off it because I can't stand the extra weight. BUT
will the weight come off when I go off the meds. Anyone know if so and how long it could take.
please! |

I was on 375 mg of effexor plus .75 mg of risparidal for over 2 years. I have gained 25 lbs. I went off the risparidal before Christmas and have slowly weaned myself off of the effexor. I still had terrible withdrawals and it has only been in the last 2 weeks that I have felt normal.
It really upsets me especially since I just read that their was a study released in the British Medical Journal that looked at all of the drug studies that have now been released under the freedom of information act, and those studies found that antidepressants, in general, are no more effective then a placebo. All of these symptoms when I could have been on a sugar pill and had the same results!! Bummer.
I am hoping the weight will come off just like it came on. Guess I will see. |

| I have absolutely gained weight. I have gained about 35 - 40 pounds in the last year, which is absolutely ridiculous. I have never had a weight problem like this. I started taking effexor a year ago and just realized this is the problem. I actually went for a drug test for a new job and had to list the RX I take. The doctor just made a comment "Oh, have you gained weight with it?" I was shocked that she would even say that since she is not my doc. I thought all the weight was from the beer I drink. But I had always drank beer. I thought it was because I am turning 40. I am switching back to serzone. I never had this problem with that. Any suggestions? Lisa |

| Oh god! I have just read this and really am considering not taking it. I have been on prozac for 16 years. I am almost 40 and I have not been able to lose weight except if i do not eat anything.Ive done it several times but i hate living like that .I am so happy when i feel good and look good in my own view.I have tried several other meds in the past but the side effects are sick.I suffered with verdigo so bad I was in bed for weeks.Has any one tried anything natural to help with anxiety and depression? I am so at the end of my rope with this medication stuff. I am really thinking of searching for a group of people that live totaly and radically healthy. There must be another way to deal with our medical issues other then medication of this kind.I am so ready for a huge change in my life,I really need the help of others who have health happy lives, that have dramatically changed their way of life and are happy and mentally healthy. My eating habits are so poor because I just never knew any better. If someone out there can help me,Please tell me what to do? Thank you,Dee |

| I am 45 and have been on Effexor (225mg/day) for the past two years and have only one problem with it...it makes me bloat. I still weigh 165lbs but at times my stomach is extended at least twice or 4-5 inches more than it ever was prior to Effexor. I have had all of the tests performed but all comes out neg. I am going to start decreasing the drug soon in hopes of elliminating this side effect. Anyone else have the same problem?? |
