Facts

  • An adenoma is a benign tumor that has a glandular origin, which forms when normal epithelial cells grow excessively.
  • If an adenoma is suspected, one or more of several noninvasive scans can be used -- ultrasound, CAT scans, or magnetic resonance
  • An adenoma can form from any glandular cell in the body.
  • There are three types of adenomas: tubular, tubulovillous, and villous with tubular being the most common.
  • Symptoms depend on the location of the adenoma. The most common one is a lump.
