Use

Axotomy is performed on L4 stage worms.
Re-expression of p75NTR by adult motor neurons after axotomy is triggered by retrograde transport of a positive signal from axons regrowing through damaged or denervated peripheral nerve tissue.
Galanin induced in sympathetic neurons after axotomy is anterogradely transported toward regenerating nerve endings.
(1996) Leukemia inhibitory factor induced in the sciatic nerve after axotomy is involved in the induction of galanin in sensory neurons.
A second known change in trophic/differentiation factor content of the SCG after axotomy is the drastic reduction in levels of nerve growth factor (NGF; 24, 25), a protein that normally reaches the ganglion primarily by retrograde transport from sympathetic target tissues.
