Scope Note

membrane bound version of the specific antibody immunoglobulins produced by B lymphocytes; when BCR is occupied by antigen and the B cell is stimulated with interleukin 2, the B cell becomes activated to produce antibodies.

Facts (generated by robot; please edit if you find it inaccurate)

  • Clustering of the B cell receptor is not required for the apoptotic response.
  • The B-cell receptor is displayed on the surface of the B cell, where it comes into contact with antigens—proteins, carbohydrate molecules, and other pieces of a foreign bacterium, virus, or other pathogen.
  • The terminal portion of the Fc region of the B-cell receptor is the part that becomes anchored to the cytoplasmic membrane of B-lymphocyte (see Fig.
  • These each have a single immunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motif (ITAM), shown as a yellow segment, in their cytosolic tails that enables them to signal when the B-cell receptor is ligated with antigen.
  • Once a Pre-B-cell receptor is formed, it will send two important signals(this is an important checkpoint): 1) One signal stops rearrangement of the other allele of the HC gene, which ensures, drum roll please.
