pneumonia caused by various species of bacteria; commonly results from bronchogenic spread of infection following microaspiration of secretions.

- Bacterial pneumonia is pneumonia caused by bacteria.
- Bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae can cause pneumonia, too, although bacterial pneumonia is less common than viral.
- Bacterial pneumonia is most commonly caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. Tuberculosis is a chronic bacterial pneumonia common throughout the world
- Bacterial pneumonias tend to be the most serious and, in adults, the most common cause of pneumonia.
- Streptococcus pneumoniae or pneumococcal pneumonia is the most common cause of bacterial pneumonia acquired outside of hospitals.
