  • Bladder cancer is cancer that forms in tissues of the bladder.
  • The greatest risk factor for bladder cancer is a genetic predisposition; it is also associated with smoking and occupational exposure to aniline-based dyes (such as in textile factories), as well as with petrol and other chemicals.
  • Bladder cancer is a fairly common form of cancer in the United States.
  • When bladder cancer is found in the very superficial lining of the bladder and does not invade surrounding tissues, it is called carcinoma in situ (CIS).
