Classification of blood according to its chemical composition.
The blood type is determined by incubating blood from an individual with antisera to the different markers found in that species.
Each blood type is also grouped by its Rhesus factor, or Rh factor.
Blood types are based on differences in molecules (proteins and carbohydrates) on the surface of red blood cells.
