Facts
- Cancer is systemic disease manifested locally by a tumor.
- Cancer is characterized by uncontrolled cell division and the ability of these cells to invade other tissues by direct growth into adjacent tissue (invasion) or by migration of cells to distant sites (metastasis).
- There is no exactly known cause of cancer but many forms are linked to exposure to environmental factors including tobacco smoke, radiation, alcohol and some viruses.
- Depending on the location and the stage of the cancer, treatment may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, monoclonal antibody therapy and other methods.
