Facts
- An infection of the skin by the yeast-like fungus Candida albicans.
- It is most commonly present on the skin and in mucous membranes of the vagina, mouth, or rectum but it can also travel through the blood stream and affect the throat, intestines, and heart valves.
- It affects vagina the most with the accompanying symptoms of itching, burning, scaling, redness, small cuts on the skin and yellow discharge with a foul odor.
- It can be treated with anti-fungal OTC or prescription medication.
