Scope Note
phenomenon of antibody mediated target cell destruction by nonsensitized effector cells; effector cell is a killer cell possessing Fc receptors; it may be a lymphocyte lacking conventional B or T cell markers, or a monocyte, macrophage, or polynuclear leukocyte, depending on the identity of the target cell.

Facts (generated by robot; please edit if you find it inaccurate)
- Our data suggest that T-cell-mediated cytotoxicity is an alternative mechanism for platelet destruction in ITP.
- Resistance to cell-mediated cytotoxicity is correlated with reduction of H-2K gene products in AKR leukemia.
- Antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity is commonly (and blissfully) abbreviated ADCC.
- Cell-mediated cytotoxicity is a major part of the way the body protects itself from immune attack and is fundamental in maintaining homeostasis of the immune system.
- NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity is activated by glycoproteins on the cell surface (activating receptors) and inhibited by MHC-1 with self-peptide bound.
