  • Chancroid is an infection by the bacterium Haemophilus ducreyi that causes painful sores on the skin of the genitals in men and women.
  • Chancroid is one of the less common STDs, but it is associated with some very painful and serious side effects.
  • Chancroid is treated with antibiotics, which usually heal the sores with minimal scarring within 3 to 7 days.
