  • Cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder.
  • Cholecystitis causes severe abdominal pain.
  • The inflammation is most commonly caused by gallstone(s).
  • Cholecystitis occurs most often in obese women older than 40.
  • The most common symptoms are pain in the right upper quadrant, constant and severe that could also be felt as the right flank pain. Other symptoms may include a low grade fever, vomiting and nausea.
