Diathermy

Use

Diathermy is the controlled production of "deep heating" beneath the skin in the subcutaneous tissues, deep muscles and joints for therapeutic purposes.
Diathermy is used for arthritis, bursitis, and other disorders of the tendons and muscles, as well as for certain other conditions requiring tissue repair.
Under certain conditions, described below, ultrasound diathermy is also contraindicated7, 8.
Newer investigations have concluded that diathermy is the modality of choice if the goal of treatment is to warm large areas of deep tissue.
Diathermy is further prohibited because it can also damage the neurostimulation system components resulting in loss of therapy, requiring additional surgery for system explantation and replacement.
