Facts


  • Eczema is a skin disorder that is characterized by itching, scaling, thickening of the skin, and can appear on the face, elbows, knees, and arms.
  • Although it can sometimes look unpleasant, eczema is not contagious.
  • The most common cause of eczema is atopic dermatitis, sometimes called infantile eczema although it occurs in infants and older children.
  • Eczema is most common in infants, and at least half of those cases clear by age 3.
  • Eczema is not an allergy itself, but allergies can be a trigger factor for eczema.
