- Esophagus represents long muscular tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach.
- Barrett's esophagus is the abnormal growth of intestinal-type cells above this border, into the esophagus.
- Barrett's esophagus is a condition in which the normal squamous epithelium of the esophagus has been replaced by an abnormal red columnar epithelium called specialized intestinal metaplasia.
