• A fungal infection is an inflammatory condition caused by a fungus.
• The risk of getting a fungal infection is increased by closed-in footwear, prolonged moist skin, and minor skin or nail injuries.
• A fungal infection is usually not serious and can not normally be spread easily from person to person.
• Fungal infection is involved in athlete's foot and jock itch.
• Certain types of fungus, or overgrowths of normally harmless types can cause the symptoms of a fungal infection of the skin.
• Ringworm of the nail is due to a fungal infection (dermatophyte) similar to the type that causes athlete's foot.
• The body normally hosts a variety of microorganisms, including bacteria and fungi.
