  • A special variety of varicose vein, a hemorrhoid is an abnormally distended vein located either in the rectum or in the outer area surrounding the anal opening.
  • If the internal hemorrhoid pushes out of the anal opening, this hemorrhoid is called a prolapsed hemorrhoid.
  • A large internal hemorrhoid bulges out of the anus, and the blood supply to the hemorrhoid is cut off (strangulated hemorrhoid).
  • The classic symptom of an internal hemorrhoid is the presence of blood when you go to the bathroom.
