- The paraesophageal hernia is less common, but is more cause for concern.
- The most serious kind of hernia is a strangulated hernia, in which the normal blood supply is cut off from the tissue that is trapped.
- A diagnosis of hiatus hernia is fairly common.
- Hernia is a protrusion of part of an organ through the muscle wall that surrounds it.
