Self-interest is not necessarily evil, though it can lead people to act in morally reprehensible ways.
Defense and the National Interest is intended to be a resource for all citizens concerned with the roles of armed forces in the modern world, the money and people we devote to them, and the effects on the rest of our society.
Interest Interest is a fee paid to borrow money.
An apparent conflict of interest is one which a reasonable person would think that the professional's judgment is likely to be compromised.
For example, if the account balance at 4pm is $10,000 and it changes to $12,000 at 10pm the same night and stays at $12,000 until 4pm the following day, then 6 hours worth of interest is paid on $10,000 and 18 hours worth of interest is paid on $12,000.
